After initially being a recreational G user who used the drug for its "benefits", I found myself in the throes of an absolutely hellish addiction that nearly took my life. I had to take a large dose every 2 hours 24 HOURS A DAY to stave off the excruciatingly painful withdrawals. I never went anywhere or did anything that might cause me to miss a fix. And if I found myself somewhere without access to a hit, I would become paralyzed with unimaginable fear because I knew that the cruel beast of withdrawal was coming for me. It had officially taken over my life. It was a full-time job and then some. I would pass out without warning and wake up an hour or so later totally confused, knowing only that I needed to take more. But that became normal. I nearly stopped eating and sleeping altogether. The next hit was ALL THAT MATTERED. When I finally decided to clean up it was because I had run out after going through about 25 gallons in 3 months (I made it myself). Some advice for those about to attempt to halt a serious bout with G addiction:

1.) Put aside about a 1-2 weeks that are TOTALLY open. It is an intense, agonizing process so don't fool yourself into thinking you will be able to function normally while detoxing.
2.) Don't try to go at it alone. Be a big enough person to admit to your family and friends that you're gonna need them by your side more than ever for a little while.
3.) Don't be afraid to seek professional help. Some sympathetic doctors will prescribe drugs to take the edge of the withdrawal.
4.) Try to learn from this experience. I won't sugarcoat, its gonna be bad...REAL BAD for the first 3-4 days. But you'll think twice from now on about what drugs you try.
ALWAYS REMEMBER: Regardless of anybody's input YOU have the ultimate say in what gets put in YOUR body. So if you end up dead or in the hospital its YOUR fault. THINK ABOUT IT.

I was given 6 capfuls of GHB in October of 1997. I had every horrible side effect: slurred speech, vomiting, dishabilitation, random babbling.
I finally passed out for about 6 hours. Friends told me that they had to wake me up about every 10 minutes to vomit, but I don't remember that. I do remember being sick after I awakened and I couldn't eat for about a day and a half. I would not recommend GHB to anyone, no matter what the dosage may be. I'm sure it can affect people different ways.

Recently I had a very traumatic experience observing the effects of the drug GHB on 2 of my patients as a Student Respiratory Therapist. Working in a small town hospital, we had 2 teenagers come in who had overdosed on this drug by mixing it with alcohol. These patients were totally unresponsive and not breathing when they were found. Immediately both were intubated and had a ventilator sustaining their lives while the drug took it's time to wear off. Not much was known about this drug, and watching the patients de-tox from it was the most disturbing experience I have ever had. I spent 2 days with one of these teens, who was not much younger than myself, holding them down in their bed despite restraints and
9 other people as their bodies shook and flailed violently, watching as the charcoal literally spewed out of his nose and mouth, and as the IV's detached from his veins. As the substance began to wear off and the patient slowly began to come to, he was unaware of who he was let alone where he was or what he'd done. Finally after 48 hours of physical and emotional battle we removed the breathing tube and eventually he was able to maintain himself. Words could not describe the experience I had with this patient all because of his desire to get a high. Fortunately, despite possible Nervous System problems, this boy went home and will live...unfortunately the other did not. I wish to God that every young person who has had the thought or previous experience with this drug could have seen what the whole CCU staff had to witness while trying to save the lives of those who had no consideration for their own. PLEASE stay away from this drug or any of it's congruents. Please! You have just no idea how horrible the experience was, and I hope no one else has to go through it.

I have been a user of the drug for nearly two years. I quit nearly two months ago cold turkey. I am now ready to leave the drug for good now that I am off of it. actually the withdrawal was not so bad as expected, but still was a pretty big pain. imitation ghb like blue nitro, and Renewtrient are much harder to get off of. I have a few things to say about this drug, its very bad because your intake of it is tough to control. if it were regulated by a doctor it could help some people, but its feeling of a high is a trap that leads to sleeping and trouble. I have done it so many times, and every time I mix it with alcohol I injure myself, or hurt a relationship in my life. to those of you reading this and are addicted...
please,,, never do too much, don't do it everyday, never mix with drugs or alcohol, never drive on it, never offer it to a friend, and eventually never do it again. im off of it finally. I am lucky to be alive after all I have been through. if your doing it... its just a matter of time before something really bad happens. I have had so many episodes when something really bad might happen and somehow it turned out ok. but after so many episodes you start to see that its just a matter of time before tragedy strikes and I don't want it. I am absolutely sure a lot of people are reading these feedbacks that are very addicted to, they are looking for reasons to tell them it is ok to do, well sometimes it is but most of the time it isn't, its going to bite you and when it does its going to sting like h***, why take that chance? why would anybody take that chance? don't push it! flush the rest down the toilet and don't look for it again. don't keep any of it around for a rainy day either. dispose of it and don't look back, that's the key to quitting. quit before you kill yourself or even worse "SOMEBODY ELSE"

I went to a party last weekend to celebrate my 18th b'day. Everything was going well and then I walked in the bathroom and saw a girl (who didn't look like she was over 15) laying on the counter crying saying she couldn't see anything. She started puking and then looked as if she was barely breathing. There were friends with her and luckily they knew to go get help. I have heard of GHB before and even almost tried it once. I was told it was liquid ecstasy and completely safe. The only thing that stopped me was I was short on cash. I didn't really hear anything else about GHB until about 4 months later at this party. As soon as I left the bathroom rumors started circulating that she had died or was dying. I then spoke with some friends that were more informed about the drug and learned how dangerous it really was. Apparently this young girl had been dancing and was offered a drink of water and she took it. The GHB was mixed in the water. Seeing her laying there in the bathroom like that was one of the scariest things I have ever seen. Parties are supposed to be about peace and love and equality. I don't know how many times I have walked up to someone and asked for a drink of water because I was hot and tired from dancing all night. I love to party and have fun but G is not fun and from what ive heard, if you have certain chemicals in your body then one capful can kill you. I just want to warn everyone of the dangers of this drug and to ask everyone not to try it, even once, because it is no joke and it can kill you. It wont take much more to get the party scene shut down forever. Please don't ruin that. Have fun, live, love.
Don't do something that you know can kill you..its not worth it. Another word of advice, if ever at a party, club, rave, whatever....don't take your eyes off of your drink, even for a second. If you do..get another one. It is no longer safe and you have no idea what could be in it.
Thank you so much for this site. GHB is something that not many people know much about or have heard of and it is something that everyone needs to be educated about. I am sorry for everyone's losses and I hope anyone who reads these comments will take them to heart.

I was out this past weekend with some of my friends and someone put GHB in our drinks. It was the worst feeling I have ever had. There are huge gaps of time that I cannot even remember from that night and what I can remember is all mixed up. It is as though I can't put anything into chronological order. Finally, I passed out. The next day, I felt worse than I ever have. It was definitely worse than any hangover I have ever experienced. I just wanted to tell people that may think it's cool to take G that it isn't and if you're thinking of trying it, don't believe the stories of how it makes you feel "good" because it definitely does not!

Working in the strip club business for 5 years and saw numerous people men and women get scooped out. It can happen at a strip club, nightclub, restaurant or anywhere, never ever leave your drink uncovered or alone with anyone, whether you know them or not. Watch the bartender like a hawk. It is so simple to scoop someone out. You would never know who did it or when they did it, mixed with alcohol it is hard to detect. Ladies watch you drinks, you too fellas!!!

A lot of these stories are painfully familiar to me. In April of 1998 a freak gave me a GHB drink, took me to his house and raped me. My friend was following us to his house with his friend and by the time she got there, a 10 minute difference due to the fact that he had his driver lose us, she said it was like I was severely "wasted" when she got there.
After arguing with the freak because he was trying to keep her away from me and had no explanation for my condition other than I was really drunk he convinced her to leave me there to sleep it off. I woke up the next day with no clothes on in bed with him and could tell someone had had sex with me. I remember nothing for which I am grateful. Still groggy, weak and confused as to where the night had gone and what I was doing there in this condition - a situation that is not a practice of mine he proceeded to hold me down and have sex with me again (irritated the entire time by my struggling and tears). Had the second rape not occurred with me semi-conscious and able to testify to it he would have gotten away with it. Because I didn't know about GHB it never occurred to me what had happened. In October of 1998 I was out with a group of girls celebrating a birthday at a club I later learned was his hang out and where he did this to countless girls. I had 3 drinks while I was there and the last one I was given tasted "foul". I too have heard that there is no taste to GHB but experience disproves that theory. I gave the drink back to the bartender and he gave me another. Again it tasted bad and I asked my friend to taste it to see if it was just me. She said she couldn't tell because she didn't drink that kind of drink (kaluha & Milk). I proceeded drink it rather than return it a second time and 10 to 20 minutes later fell to floor in mid conversation with a friend and proceeded to go into convulsions and violently throw up. I was carried out of the club still convulsing where the bouncer told my friends that this was something more serious than too much alcohol and they should get me to the emergency room. They called a cab and took me to the emergency room and one of the girls told the ER doctor that she thought someone had drugged me and they should check for that. They didn't check for anything, instead they wrote it off as some party girl who drank to much and gave me shots of something to make me stop vomiting. Again I woke up hours later not knowing what happened and when I asked the one of the doctors what happened he told me I drank to much. The very next night at the same club he drugged and raped another girl. Thankfully she was smart enough to know what happened and went to the police. Had she not done this I would still have no explanation or recourse. It is 2 years later and while he is in jail he has team of lawyers defending him. One of their defenses is that I was just a girl out partying who was a willing participant and he is the victim. One of the things they intend to use to prove this theory at trial is this second incidence. Because the ER staff neglected to check me for anything other than alcohol I am in the position of having to prove it was not alcohol related, obvious due to the ER data and other documentation, but still I will be the one under fire and have to give more than sufficient documentation - documentation I am trying obtain to defend myself. At this point I don't what's worse - the rape or the fact that he may get away with it or receive a lesser sentence because of negligent ER medical staff. That coupled with the fact I could have died because of their negligence just infuriates me. While my rape case is solid and most probably won't be effected by this second incidence the probably worries me and I plan to be prepared. I am so completely outraged that his attorneys are going to be able to tear apart my character and credibility due to this. Added to insult, I am someone who goes to clubs very infrequently (2-4 times a year!!!!!) which is usually for a celebration of some sort. When I was out the night I was raped it was for my birthday. The second time for a co-worker's birthday. Thanks to therapy I am getting my strength back and do not intend back off without a fight. If anyone has any information on ER's or lack of treatment of GHB victims in ER's (specifically Los Angeles) I would greatly appreciate it. At the very least, I want ER staff to receive and follow proper procedure for treatment of GHB reactions. As far as I am concerned they are just as guilty as he is. Perhaps if the ER staff would have checked me as they were advised to do they would have found it to be true, the club would have been contacted and the rape the next night may not have happened. Which by the way, he was not the only one who raped her that night. Good luck to everyone.

I agree that GHB is very dangerous. I was addicted myself and have had a few very scary situations happen. The last time I took it I stopped breathing and I thank God I am alive right now. I am also thankful that I "passed out" in a public place because none of my friends or even my husband would have called 911 because they all thought that you had to sleep it off. What a scary drug. Even now I crave it but then I think about waking up in the hospital with a breathing tube down my throat and I think again.

Well my story is a little different. I first got introduced to ghb in the summer of 99. At first all my aunt and her boyfriend told me was in was used to get in shape and for weight lifting, but as the days went by all I saw them do was drink it without working out on it. So I naturally asked them what did this stuff really do. Well that's when they gave me some and from there my life went down. I look at ghb as a roller coaster, and when you first take it that's when the ride starts. well after the first time I took it I fell in love with it. I became attached to ghb doing it whenever I had the time to, and at times I would do it right in front of my mother without her knowing. well to make a longer story short. well one day I brought ghb into school and there was three kids in my class who wanted it. I told no cause I didn't want anyone to get hooked cause I knew what I was doing was wrong but I couldn't break free of the ride. well they took ghb while I was away from my desk. well all four of us had to go to the hospital and the three kids placed the blame on me saying I put it in there drink and they said I didn't tell them what it was. I even showed them this website but they still wanted it. after that that's when the ride reached its peak and was coming down. for the next week I was in every newspaper and in every new show. I to go to court for this and I face a little jail time, and keep in mind im only 16. all I can say is this [stuff] is no joke and if anyone knows anyone who is doing this GET THEM HELP BEFORE ITS TO LATE. ----------------------------------------------------------

Greetings:

As a serving Law Enforcement Officer that maintains status as a Drug Expert I would like to commend you for this site. I work currently as a Vice Officer out of the Sex Crimes Section. I have been providing Drug Awareness Education for almost 22 years now.

One of the most difficult parts of my job is combating misinformation supplied freely through web sites. Most GHB users under estimate the dangers involved with this drug and since it is so easy to make the supply is as close as a kitchen sink to individuals of all ages.

I lecture continually and will be happy to list your Web site as a Resource. Please keep up the good work.

I just wanted to thank the creators of this website for doing such a wonderful job on informing people about this terrible drug. I am only 11 and I have now heard my new true vocation--helping people learn about drugs and why you should not do them. I first came to this site because I was doing a report on this drug. I am sure I will get an "A" on my report because of the wonderful information on this site. THANK YOU!!!:>

Last night, my best friend was drinking at a bar. He was perfectly fine and dancing around. All of a sudden, he passed out on my friend. We didn't know what to do. He was dead weight. It took 4 people to carry him out of the bar. We rushed him to a nearby hospital and just as my boyfriend was taking him out of the car, he passed out. He was unconscious and not breathing. My friends started to do compressions on him and mouth to mouth. They carried him up the emergency ramp and brought him into the hospital. He is doing fine now, but one question I ask is, "Do people get entertainment out of this?" This is sick and disgusting. This is very serious and no one should play around with this drug!

I want to thank you so very much for taking the time to inform me of your findings. I too was coaxed into believing the "GOOD" things and never heard any bad things. Until I took it upon myself to do the research. Wow. I am so glad I was one of the lucky ones to be smart and research this. I have a dear friend who wanted to try it so I said "suuurrree, why not" Well that friend passed out on me and got that twitchiness about him. I got scared and stripped him down and threw him into a cool shower. He immediately woke up thank god and I sat and kept him awake. Was a tough night but that crap was down the drain where it should all go. If I had lost my dear friend due to this, I honestly would have lost myself. (I am truly sorry for your loss as well) I bought this stuff off an internet web site! $65 for 48 ounces. Well that 65 that was wasted, I see as I wasted $65 to keep mine and my friends life. The web site I got this from is [I won't advertise it here] They claim to sell SOAP MAKING KITS! And they ship out of Canada. I'm sure there are MANY companies like this one…..

Well, Once again, THANK YOU SOOOOOOO VERY MUCH for your time and efforts on making the public aware. ----------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I would like to start out by saying that I am so sorry for everyone who has lost a loved one to this deadly drug. I am a college student in Florida. I am a peer educator at my school. We do seminars on drugs (GHB, marijuana, cocaine, etc) among many other health related issues. Just wanted you to know that there are many people out there who are trying to save lives by educating people. A bunch of my fraternity brothers Take "Blue Niny" as the call it. I won't try it b\c I know it is supposed to make you sleep and I am the kind of person that will fall into an extended coma from 2 shots of Nyquil. I asked my friend what it made him feel like and he said "it makes me wanna tackle caddilacs!" none of My friends have had any bad experiences with it......SO FAR. I am going to tell them about all this (even though it probably won't do any good) I did take Renewtrient once. they were in pill form. It was right before I was going to sleep. My roommate always takes about 10-12 and drinks like 2 beers over a span of about 2-3 hours. So I figured I'd take about 5 and not drink any beer. I didn't really feel anything at all. But I woke up the next day and didn't feel the least bit tired. Actually pretty good. I don't think I will do any of that stuff anymore.......

My fiancé and I were just in Las Vegas for Memorial Day Weekend. We were hanging out at the Hard Rock Hotel and what started out to be a great weekend in the sun, turned out to be the scariest weekend of our lives. Scott (my fiancé) was swimming around in the pool one minute, then not 10 minutes later, I was sitting in a beach chair with a friend and he started acting very strange--like he was just so wasted. It was like he couldn't keep his head up and his face went into the water--I ran into the water to find out what was wrong with him, he started laughing and saying "What?, What?" I thought he was just being a jerk so I made him get out of the water and sit on the beach chair with me for fear that he would drown because he couldn't keep his head up. Next thing I know he is completely non-responsive, at this point I know that there is something really wrong with him. We called for an ambulance even though people around us were telling me to leave him alone and that he would be alright. Thank God we called someone right away. I was told at the hospital that if I would have let him lay there, he most likely would have died. He started having a seizure and when the paramedics finally got him to the ER, he was in critical condition and in a coma. He stopped breathing and was put on life support and was in the beginning stages of kidney failure. I could not believe that this was happening. Our whole relationship has been a complete fairy tale and I kept thinking that "it can't end like this!!! I am suppose to marry this person in a couple of months and we are suppose to spend our lives together". This was especially scary because we were away from home and no one could help us. The doctors told me that if he had any family I needed to contact them because there was a very real chance that he would not make it. After over 7 hours in a coma, he suddenly woke up. I had never been so happy in my life. He could have very easily died, and I thank God every day for letting him live. This is not something that anyone should have to go through. Scott was only 31 and in perfect health. I have heard so many people call this drug safe. If it is safe, why are so many people dying from it? People need to get a clue. I almost lost a person that I love because of G and for what? People take it so that they can have a good time and avoid a hang-over the next day? That isn't worth losing your life. There are better and safer ways to have fun. Don't learn the lesson the hard way.

I got on the web specifically to look up info on GHB. I work in our region's biggest and best Emergency/Trauma Center and lately we've had an awful lot of young adults picked up by EMS (usually from local bars), barely breathing as a result of using GHB, often mixing it with alcohol. despite being barely out of my drug-experimenting years (I behave myself now), I had never heard of GHB and decided to find out all I could about it. I truly sympathize with you on the loss of your son--I wish you strength and healing. please keep up what you are doing. heather (georgia) ----------------------------------------------------------
