This guy approached me and said he was trying to set up a food supplement programme in the UK, using something that had been banned 'by the system'. This substance is GHB. He asked my assistance in setting up and marketing the product. After viewing your information, I have refused. Keep up the good work, lets not die stupid...

I was a GHB addict for about a year and went into a medical facility
twice to detox from this horrific drug. The problem with the detox
program was they had no idea how to treat the withdrawal. On my
first attempt at quitting, I signed myself into St. John's hospital in
St. Paul, MN and they gave me phenobarbital (sp?) to detox. I checked
myself out after 5 days because I could no longer stand the withdrawal.
I went back to my hourly use of GHB for another 3 months. One day,
I had something happen to me which I describe as a seizure, but I
have no medical expertise to verify this. I was terribly frightened and
checked myself back into the hospital immediately. This time I lied to
them and told them I was using herion so they would take my withdrawal seriously (this was a problem with them the first time around. They had no idea the seriousness of the addiction.)
I was able to produce opium in my system by taking 2 percocets before going to the hospital. This was not a bright idea on my part, and about 10 minutes of arriving at the hospital, I had another "seizure". My tounge started to swell and they had a trama team on standby ready to deal with me. They knew in addition to the opium that I was taking this "mystery" drug GHB. After a few hours, my "seizures" settled. They then treated me with methadone and successfully got me off the GHB. I still went through a terrible withdrawal with tremors, hallucinations, sleeplessness, anxiety, and many more symptoms, but the second treatment still remains a success. I will never use that drug again, and now I'm even wary of taking ANY "dietary" supplement.

I'm 28 years old, and never in my life had a drug or alcohol problem
until I started taking that supplement.

I really wish I would have known about your website back then
(it was the beginning of this year) because you could have helped
the doctors immensely. No one knew how to deal with it. It's very
scary when you seek medical treatment, a dozen specialists stand
around your bed, and NO ONE knows what to do.

I'm just very happy to be alive, and I'm now getting involved with
making people aware of this hideous drug.

Thank you for your time.

I just want to thank you for having a website that was so informative. Recently at a bar someone slipped ghb into my friends drink. After 2 hours of her coming in and out of a lethargic state and vomiting we called 911. When the ambulance arrived they rushed her to the hospital. When she tested positive for ghb we were all extremely surprised. Most of us had heard of the drug, but really did not know anything about it. Thanks to your website all of our questions have been answered.

I am a college student and I am outraged by the lack of information available to me locally about GHB and other date-rape drugs. Recently, a friend and I were drugged. By the time we realized what had happened, we had passed the 12-hour time limit to test for GHB in the urine. We did so anyway, hoping we would luck out. Unfortunately, we do not know if it was GHB, rohypnol, or a home-made drug because our results were negative. I want to do something to raise awareness about date-rape drugs. Not one person in the ER of our hospital could tell us anything about these drugs and I feel like we are running in circles. I can't count the amount of phone calls I have made in attempt to gain information about testing for GHB, and I am appalled at the fact that I always came up empty handed.

Please contact me through my e-mail address. I would like to have as much information about this drug and drugs like it as I can get, so I can distribute it to all of the hospitals and counseling centers that have little or no knowledge about GHB. I don't want any more girls in my situation to have to come up empty handed like we have.

Hi my name is A.T. and I have done a lot of research on this drug since
I heard about the Samantha Reid story. Now we , us people have to put a stop to this now!! The next time the GHB drug strikes it could be you, your best-friend, your child or children, or even someone that lives next to you. We need to put a stop to this now. How I don't know, when, well as some as some people get enough people together to put a word out that this is a killer drug and it deeds to be taken off the market. I hope we can do something sometime about this drug and put the people that sell it away for good. They know that it can harm people's lives and they still sell it. They need to be taught a lesson.

I would like to say that I wish I had found this website before this Labor Day weekend, but it's too late now. I could of printed the information and hoping and praying it would get the big picture. I attended my ex-boyfriends funeral today. We have been good friends, mainly by talking to each other via telephone for a long time. I tried so hard to make him see that GHB was bad. I once sent him a news article on the deaths due to GHB, but he just wouldn't accept it, or said "they didn't know how to use it". He was found dead Monday morning at 4:00 a.m., his 28th birthday would have been September 18, 2000. I just don't understand why anyone takes this drug knowing what it does to them, and the way it makes them act. This drug has taken so many good lives away. You always think that it won't kill you, and that's what my dear friend thought too. Please everyone... get help, it's not worth it. Please think of what your putting your family and friends through. It hurts sooooo bad to see someone on this drug, and even worse when they die. I loved my dear friend so much, and I will miss him immensely. Please for the love of GOD... get help, we are not invincible.

I feel for all who have lost someone to GHB. Yet, I am grateful for the posting of this site. I had heard of GHB - that it was used by body builders who wanted a quick way to repair their bodies after working out. Three months ago, at a party, I took a drink I believed to be a screw-driver. After three of these, I began to feel "strange." I can not explain the feeling, but it was very unfamiliar. After a few minutes, I decided to go home. My roommate and I headed off. Thank God I never made it home. I pulled over to nap, and woke up four hours later in the emergency room. The nurses said my heart stopped twice, and that I was as close to death as they have ever seen. Had I made it to my house, which was only five minutes away, I would not be typing this now. I talked to friends who told me different stories about what they believed GHB to be. None of their ideas were the truth. GHB is a KILLER, a rape-aiding drug! I believe, that I was not meant to have those drinks. I think they were probably made for one or some of the females at the party. However, I am glad that I drank them instead of one of the girls. I am 6'tall and weigh 190 lbs. If that drug had that affect on me, what would have happened if one of the smaller females would have rank it?

I certainly agree that young people need to be more cautious and learn the deadly effects of GHB and it's "cousins" still sold. However; I feel there should be also more focus on GHB and it's "cousins" in the workplace. These hypnotic drugs are just as common in the workplace now as on the streets. Several of us (wives) are upset over the suspicion of our husbands having this drug available from a co-worker (female). We feel we are right now about the signs we see because of these: Severe headaches, glassy eyes, "off in a trance" so to speak very often seeming pre-occupied, nausea and often sudden urges for BM's, sometimes diarrhea, having to stop the car sometimes for a sudden urge for BM (after being AT WORKPLACE), severe AMNESIA or blackouts of periods of time, often showing signs of either what one might think is lying or possibly being confused about a matter they "should remember", bedwetting or wetting britches during a "nap" or at night, usually in a VERY Deep Sleep, having a sudden need for sleep, even sitting upright riding in a vehicle while snoring and deeply asleep, mood swings, going from being VERY LOVING and wanting to TOUCH, Play, and be very Lovable to later being VERY MEAN and hostile or easily triggered, also respiratory symptoms at times, especially STOPPED Breathing during deep sleep, followed by choking on awakening, also dilated pupils sometimes during these questionable times.
I feel all the research I've done on these symptoms point to GHB !!
I also feel bad things are around the corner if something doesn't change soon.

From: Alicia Faith - a senior at the University of Utah

I was given the drug in the spring of 1998. The motive for me and my friend to be drugged was rape. I researched the drug and what little was known about it. I've been a subscriber to your newsletter for awhile now, I was appalled about my state (Utah) laws and encouraged my REp. and SEn. to push through the bill that made GHB illegal.
After all this I was a DDriver for friends at a bar and one of those friends was slipped it in her drink- so I got to see the ER post-bar GHB complications almost a year after I myself had been there. My friend now watches for GHB news and spreads awareness as well.

I am always willing to do what I can to prevent what happened to me- from happening to anyone else.

Right now I am very interested in LONG TERM EFFECTS.

so if you have had small doses over a long period of time or a large dose in a short amount of time (like me) and you've noticed things about your health that have been effected are they the same as me? are they different? do any doctors know of any long term effects?
Anyone hear of more research being done on it?
dizzy moments, or sudden moments where you are off balance or you equilibrium is off. If I had to describe a moment I would say it is like getting up to fast and having the blood rush from your head- but you haven't physically moved. Or walking around after being on a dizzy-wild-roller coaster but you are in the middle of a regular activity. Or just moments when your head feels too heavy for your neck. It never lasts long enough to fall over- only a few seconds and the longer it has been since the drugging the less dizzy spells you experience.

Strange headaches Sinus problems (all 3 people I know personally- including me have developed allergies to things we never had an reaction to before)

long term breathing problems ( all 3 of us had some heavy breathing for exercise problems- but it slowly healed to seem like normal- but I still notice my lung capacity or strength can still be weak at times- it's easy to see it being an avid swimmer both before and after.)
