You Have Asked……..   WHAT CAN I DO???

Regional Team Efforts ← → More Ideas!

Many times people have asked how they can help spread the word about how dangerous it is to abuse GHB. There are a variety of ways you can help, both in your local community and nationally.

This website has been operated by a few individuals at their own expense over the years. Project GHB now has nonprofit status and is working toward some national events to bring attention to how widespread GHB abuse really is and to help save others by educating:

  • doctors to understanding overdose/rape/addiction issues,
  • the public in general about all the problems so that individuals may protect themselves and
  • law enforcement about how to stop the trafficking of this drug over the internet, etc.

There is a lot YOU can do. Here are some ideas to get you started. They range from small to large, depending on how much each individual can afford to contribute in time/effort! Every little bit helps. Click HERE for how you can help!!!

TEAM EFFORT: If you like, turn your effort into a group event. Recruit others and start a “team” to spread the word in your state or local multi-county area or even multiple states.

Things you can do that will make a difference:

  1. PUBLICITY: Local publicity. There is no doubt it is very difficult to “go public” when you have suffered a personal incident such as someone dosing your drink or being raped or losing a family member or being addicted. But, if that IS a possibility, tell the world and bring attention to the issue. Depending on the circumstances, sometimes it can be done but without using your true or full name. Newspapers and television stations love to do this type of story, but it has to be tied to a specific and recent event. So, timeliness is important. They will want to interview local doctors and other experts on the subject. This helps bring attention to your area problem and puts it into perspective with other regions as well. We may be able to help identify other survivors, addicts, family members in the area as well as doctors and police officers knowledgeable and willing to talk.
    1. Encourage anyone who has an experience with GHB to report it to viewers’ comments here: Feedback Form.
    2. In cases involving adverse reactions, especially if it was from a “product” sold on the internet or in a store, be sure to make a report to the FDA adverse reaction website. There is a link to it on our website, www.projectghb.org, as well.
  2. FUNDRAISING: Hold a bake sale or other local fundraising event to raise money for Project GHB’s Awareness Campaign, both locally and nationally. A nationally recognized advertising firm has developed public service posters and tri-fold brochures for use nationwide on the issues of overdose, rape, addiction and death. These brochures and posters are now available on our website at minimal cost. Holding a local fundraiser and distributing some of the posters and brochures will bring local attention to the issue and help us accomplish the national campaign as well. Use the event to post information about GHB on your booth or table. We can help provide info, photos, handout material, etc. Handouts (GHB Fact Sheet and an info sheet on GHB addiction/withdrawal) are also available.
    1. If you have personal knowledge of individuals or corporations who might be interested in making donations directly to Project GHB to support the national GHB Awareness Campaign or specific local community campaigns or to support the GHB Addiction Helpline operated by Project GHB, please contact us. We can provide a packet of information to them and make the follow up contact.
    2. Approach your local chapter of the United Way for a mini-grant to cover the costs of the brochures, posters, handouts, etc. They are a great source of support in many local communities for reasonable amounts. Ask to make a presentation about GHB and what needs to be done at their monthly meeting and have a write-up prepared as to what you are requesting. We can help you with that information and presentation. Find your local chapter of United Way
    3. Got a Krispy Kreme Doughnut shop nearby???? They have a fundraising program. You sell the doughnuts (by the dozen) ahead of time (they give you the sign up sheets) and then you can have a date/location where they are picked up like in a mall (some place where you would have a booth with signs/info about Project GHB and the risks of taking GHB). Or, you can sell certificates (there are two different certificate programs) that they can redeem at their convenience. Either way, you are paying about half price for the doughnuts or certificates and selling them for a significant profit. Check it out at www.krispykreme.com
  3. DISTRIBUTE BROCHURES: Distribute brochures in your community about GHB. Besides the brochures that are now available online…….we can offer the same brochure in a format where you can tailor it to local needs. We have an awareness brochure on GHB and one on MDMA that can be used by any individual or organization. We provide the basic format and you get copies made through local donations or local help agencies. There is a space on the back for local help numbers or to put the logo of organization sponsoring printing of the brochure. If you have access to Publisher 98 or 2000, we can email you the brochure formats (with graphics but no actual photos in the email version) or send you a CD of them (includes versions with just graphics and with photos). You can alter the section on the back, inserting sponsor information or local help numbers. The GHB brochure is basically the same brochure we are selling online, but in its original design and with the opening on the back for local info. Request Email or CD
  4. PRESENTATIONS: For those interested in doing presentations on current drugs of abuse to high school or college students, we have a Power Point presentation called “A Word To Our Students” that was written by Trinka Porrata for $50 (3 for $125; 5 for $200). The money from this CD goes to Project GHB for the national awareness effort. Your purchase will help us achieve the fundraising goal. Click here for more information and an order form.
    1. For those interested in doing presentations to students or other agencies about awareness of the “club drugs,” go to www.projectghb.org and click on the new “Recognizing GHB, MDMA & Ketamine” in the “Updates” box on the right hand side of the home page. You can view it free or for a mere $12 donation, can download it and use it as a basis for your own presentation.
  5. REPORTS: Write a report for a school project or your Scout Troop or other organization on GHB to bring awareness to your community. Information from the website (especially the news links and viewers comments and newsletters) will help you. And, we’d like to have you post your project (and report the grade you got if you like!) on a special page on our website. You may email your report to us at Tporrata@earthlink.net or Diane@projectghb.org or mail it to us at Project GHB, 4719 Quail Lakes Suite G-253, Stockton, California, 95207.
  6. MAKE CONTACT: Contact local addiction treatment centers and ERs and ask if they are aware of GHB as an addictive drug. If not, please print out the GHB addiction/withdrawal factsheet and if more detailed info is desired, let us know and we can provide additional information on GHB addiction and withdrawal to assist them in recognizing and treating this problem. At the very least, bring our website to their attention for information about GHB abuse. If they ARE familiar with GHB addiction/withdrawal or are willing to learn and wish to be included in our database of doctors and facilities who can help GHB addicts, please complete or have them complete the facilities form on our website or email directly to Trinka Porrata at Equus555@att.net.
